The Congress Center in Berlin
The “Haus des Lehrers” (Teacher’s House) and the congress hall which forms part of it were constructed between 1961 and 1964. The timeless, modern architecture, an optimum area configuration and the central situation make the bcc a unique event location in Berlin.
The challenge
In 2008, the whole kitchen infrastructure was modernized in cooperation with Rieber. The task was to integrate the ideal equipment for events ranging from 50 to 5000 guests. Energy efficiency and extremely space-saving designs were other important focuses. To meet these requirements, several small kitchen units were connected in series instead of large units. Thanks to this arrangement, it is possible to adjust the number of equipment operated to the number of guests, thus avoiding wasting energy.
The food flow optimization in the kitchen was so successful that the management soon found out that it was no longer the kitchen that was the bottleneck, but the distribution of the meals to the guests. As a result, the bcc, together with the prestigious design agency gewerk and Rieber, developed the GN compatible system crockery cp08 (www.cp08.de).
In the meantime, Sarah Wiener, has been very successful in producing the meals in the bcc kitchen.
